Hours to Sunset is a unique mosaic/sundial born of the ingenious mind of Shaun Tan and presented in all its 360,000+ tile glory to The University of Western Australia for their centenary.

Naturally it gathered a fair amount of attention as it went up, and since the scaffolding came down more than a few people have ambled past and thought, ‘Gosh. I wonder what that’s all about?’

So we at UWA Extension created this simple website to explain what it is you’re looking at, how it works, who did it and to give you an idea the effort that went into it; both in the excellent work performed by the craftsmen as well as the sometimes protracted history behind bringing the whole project to life.

And it’s also a place for you to share your thoughts and observations — we’d like to encourage you to leave a comment or link to us in your own website or blog.

If you have a question that’s not answered here or would like a little more information about any of this, by all means you can drop us a line at UWA Extension.
